2 unusual facts about Selby railway station

Narrow gauge lines of the Victorian Railways

It was closed in 1954 following a landslide between Selby and Menzies Creek, but continued to operate tourist services for the Puffing Billy Preservation Society over the remaining usable section of the line to Belgrave.

Selby, Victoria

The town hosts the second station on the narrow-gauge railway to Gembrook (now the Puffing Billy Railway).

Church Fenton railway station

The station lost its ECML status in 1871 when the new direct line from York to Doncaster via Selby was opened, but trains from London to Harrogate continued to call and yet another addition to the list of routes serving the station came in 1879 when the Swinton and Knottingley Joint Railway line via Pontefract Baghill and Ferrybridge was opened.
