Unlike many counties, Selkirkshire has not continued to exist as a lieutenancy area, but has become part of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale for these purposes.


Sir Samuel Strang Steel, 1st Baronet

He was made a Baronet in July 1938, of Philiphaugh, Selkirkshire, and from 1948 to 1958 he served as Lord Lieutenant of Selkirkshire.

Walter Montagu Douglas Scott, 5th Duke of Buccleuch

Buccleuch died at in Bowhill, Selkirkshire, in April 1884, aged 77, and was succeeded by his eldest son, William.
