Following the election, an 87-seat Senate was elected by District Assembly members, and the two chambers elected a president (Joseph Kasa-Vubu of ABAKO) together.
He now serves as a senator in the nation's parliament as a member of the Alliance of the Presidential Majority, the party backing current president Joseph Kabila.
