He had a first round bye, then beat Uzbekistan's Muralimov Ahvov in the quarterfinal round 28-18 in his first major international bout, but lost his semifinal to highly touted Russian Sergey Kalchugin by RSCO.
In 2006 he lost the final to World silver medallist Roman Romanchuk, in 2007 he beat Sergey Kalchugin but exited early in the quarters against unknown Musalchi Magomedov.
At his first national championships 2007 he lost to Evgenyi Romanov.

At the seniors he has the problem of tremendous domestic opposition in southpaws Roman Romanchuk and Rakhim Chakhkeiv.

In the World Junior Championships 2006 semifinal he defeated Dorsett Barnwell by RSCO, in the final at Agadir he stopped Remzi Ozbek.

At the European title win in Tallinn 2005 he defeated Elchin Alizade who went on to win a silver medal at the seniors world championships later that year in the semifinal.
