In 1950, the military reoccupied the structure and it served a number of purposes over the next decades, eventually becoming the home of 28 Service battalion, and other minor Army reserve units.

In 1899 he succeeded his father as surgeon to the 89th Regiment but, a few months later, joined the Second (Special Service) Battalion of The Royal Canadian Regiment with the rank of major and saw service in the South African War.
His important commands included Commander, U.S. Army Troop Support Command in St. Louis, Missouri; Commander, Defense Industrial Support Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Commander, Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service in Battle Creek, Michigan; Commander, 88th Supply and Service Battalion in Vietnam; Commander, Regional Support Activity, Military Region II, Vietnam; Commander, U.S. Army Logistic Evaluation Agency at New Cumberland Army Depot; and Commander, Burtonwood Army Depot in England.
According to his obituary in the 1916 edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, Garrett was killed while serving as a lieutenant in the 9th service battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment in the Dardanelles campaign.
A former colliery electrician at Thornley, Durham, he was 21 years old, and a Temporary Second Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, The Northumberland Fusiliers, British Army, attached to 11th (Service) Battalion during the First World War when the following deed took place at the battle of Asiago for which he was awarded the VC.
Kibben’s Marine Corps assignments have included Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, where she served with Headquarters and Service Battalion, Security Battalion, the Brig, Marine Corps Air Facility and the president’s Helicopter Squadron, HMX-1.
He served as a Sergeant in the 2nd (Special Service) Battalion of The Royal Canadian Regiment.
