The school district includes the nearby unincorporated communities of Littleton, Wise, and Shady Grove in Buchanan County, and Barclay, Canfield, Jubileee, and Spring Creek in Black Hawk County.
It rises at the unincorporated community of Mission Home near the boundary of Shenandoah National Park and flows southeast past Shady Grove and Nortonsville to join the Roach River, forming the North Fork of the Rivanna at their confluence.
In later years they would open facilities near Atlantic City, New Jersey and two in the Baltimore area, Painters Mills Music Fair as well as the Shady Grove Music Fair as well as operating theaters in Philadelphia, Cleveland Ohio Front Row Theater and in the Deauville Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.

Early's divisions under Maj. Gens. Robert E. Rodes and Stephen Dodson Ramseur drove the Union troops back to Shady Grove Road, but Ramseur's advance was stopped by a fierce stand of infantry and artillery fire.
The park houses the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark, the Shady Grove Victim Memorial, a Henry Moore sculpture entitled "Large Spindle Piece", the Houston Police Officers' Memorial, Glenwood Cemetery, the San Felipe playground, jogging trails, and a sand pit which can be used for volleyball.
As part of the Shady Grove Life Sciences Campus, the hospital established a partnership in 2008 with the Universities at Shady Grove and Salisbury University to offer a bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy at the USG campus in Rockville.
