This proposed a canal for 20-ton boats, from Newport Pagnell via Tyringham, Sharnbrook and St Neots, where it would join the Ouse.
Sharnbrook is the village where the prototype of Uncle Silas, Joseph Betts, the protagonist of H.E. Bates's My Uncle Silas lived.
The son of Sir William Lee, Chief Justice of the King's Bench and brother of Harriet Lee, he lived at Totteridge Park, formerly in Hertfordshire and owned Colworth House near Sharnbrook in Bedfordshire.
