Andy toured Africa for the first time in 2005, performing at the Bob Marley 60th birthday concert in Addis Ababa, and while in Ethiopia also sang at the President's Palace and gave benefit concerts for the Twelve Tribes organization at the Rastafari movement settlement at Shashamane.
As a direct result of the support Ethiopia received from black people in the West, namely at that time African-Americans, during the Italian invasion 1935-1941, the Emperor granted five (5) Gashas of land near Shashamane to the E.W.F. Inc., for Ethiopian people in the Diaspora who desired to return to the motherland first in 1948.
In January 2005 there were reports in the media that Bob Marley's remains were to be exhumed and then reburied at Shashamane.
Alaba Kulito is an important marketing and communication center, connected by asphalt road to the capital Addis Ababa, Shashamane and Arba Minch, and by gravel road to Hosaena.
The village was moved in 1934 EC (AD 1941/2) adjacent to the main road running between Goba and Shashamane, and by 2000 the town had expanded considerably with the construction of approximately 60 houses around a new market site on the north side of the town.
The game is almost non-existent in Ethiopia at present, and only played by the minor Rastafarian community in Shashamane and Zion in southern Ethiopia.
