He was an ever-present the following season until February 2002 when he lost his place in the team, thanks to a broken nose sustained in training and the fine form of Shaun Maher.
Fingal achieved promotion to the Premier Division and better was to come as Fingal and Maher won the FAI Cup when beating Sligo Rovers 2-1 at Tallaght Stadium.
