Dr. Wazed Miah married Sheikh Hasina, elder daughter of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on November 17, 1967, when Sheikh Mujib was in jail awaiting the trial of Agartala Case brought against him for "conspiring to secede from Pakistan".
However, Mainul Hosein was forced to resign from the interim government one year after taking oath after making baseless, derogatory and partisan remarks against various political leaders of the country including two former prime ministers Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia.

In India, activists of Gairik Bharat burned an effigy of Sheikh Hasina in Silchar, in protest against her failure to protect the Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
Without his knowledge, the Moeen group had filed cases at night; they arrested former prime ministers and leaders of the two major parties, Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina, of the BNP and Awami League, respectively.
The pact was severely criticised within Bangladesh and by various leaders of the Awami League such as party presidium member Amir Hossain Amu, who criticised Sheikh Hasina for signing the pact without discussing it with other party leaders.
