Sholing resigned at the end of the season for financial reasons, to drop down to the Wessex League.
Labour were reduced to 16 seats after losing another seat in Sholing to the Conservatives who went up to 12 seats.

The 1868 National Gazetteer described the parish as being in the Hundred of "Mainsbridge" and containing Sholing and Woolston as well as Netley.
