The adjacent Llantysilio Chain Bridge crosses the River Dee, to link the local hotel which is next to the Shropshire Union Canal with the railway halt.
In the 1830s, Thomas Telford built the Liverpool and Junction canal (now known as the Shropshire Union Canal) through the edge of the village, bringing a lot of people and trade into the village.
