The south, or Lady Chapel, was added in 1931 and designed by Thomas Lyon, the architect of Sidney Sussex College Chapel.
Lidington was educated at the independent Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School in Elstree and at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge; he took an honours degree in History and a doctorate for research on Elizabethan history.
Lang was educated at Lathallan School, Rugby School and Sidney Sussex College of The University of Cambridge, where he was also a member of the Cambridge Footlights.
