Built 1933-1944 by architect Sigurd Lewerentz and, until 1992, known as the Malmö City Theatre accommodating several different organizations, the Opera House and Music Theatre is one of the largest auditoriums in Scandinavia with 1508 seats, created in the form of an enclosed amphitheatre in order to allow for the greatest viewing possibility.
Sigurd Lewerentz (29 July 1885 in Sandö, Sweden – 29 December 1975 in Lund, Sweden) was an architect, initially trained as a mechanical engineer at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg (1905–8).
