She assisted her husband when he directed his first film, Silambattam starring Silambarasan, Sana Khan and Sneha.
Ganesh made his breakthrough with a role in his home production Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya directed by Gautham Menon featuring Silambarasan and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles.

The project was announced by S. J. Surya in 2004 shortly after the release of New, when he revealed that A. R. Rahman would also collaborate for three of his future ventures titled Anbulla Nanbane, Aezhumazhai vs Chitra with Silambarasan and Asin and Isai.
After finishing a degree at Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Mahat pursued a career in films with actor-director Silambarasan who cast him in a minor role for the 2006 film, Vallavan.
Furthermore he features in the supporting cast of Gautham Menon's next Sattendru Maaruthu Vaanilai, and has shot for scenes alongside Silambarasan and Pallavi Subhash.
He went on to play a comic role in the 2011 anthology film, Vaanam, which he also produced, portraying the character of "Bajanai" Ganesh who assists Cable Raja played Silambarasan.
