The Bishop of Lincoln, John Kaye, appointed Evans since in 1829 the 8th Baronet was only a child of 13.
His only son was the 8th Baronet but as he died young (1778–1785), the baronetcy passed to Major John's brother, Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, 9th Baronet.
Acland died on September 26, 2009 a day after being involved in a car accident near Bedford, England.
