Restormel Castle

The castle was taken by Sir Richard Grenville, a local member of the gentry who had been the member of Parliament for Fowey before the war.

Sir Richard Grenville, 1st Baronet

Grenville was immortalised in Daphne Du Maurier's 1948 novel The King's General, which has subsequently been adapted into a play, which is to be performed at Restormel Castle, Cornwall in May 2009.


Jan Jacobsen

This incident was comparable to English admiral Sir Richard Grenville and the Revenge and created a mystique around the Dunkirkers, and the figure of Jacobsen in particular, at the very beginning of the second phase (1621–1648) of the Eighty Years' War.

Moreton House

The college is named after Sir Richard Grenville (1541–1591) of the Revenge, British Naval commander, whose family had in later years owned the Moreton Estate.
