From 2004 until 2006 it had been the full-time residence of Bhumibol Adulyadej (after which chronic poor health forced him to return to Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, where the medical facilities and doctors he needs are closer at hand).
Siriraj Hospital is the oldest and largest hospital in Thailand, located in Bangkok on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, opposite Thammasat University's Tha Phrachan campus.
Vajaradul established the Bangkok Biomaterial Center in Siriraj Hospital in 1984, and Thailand became the tissue banking forerunner of the region.
