In April 2013, he retired from his playing career to become the new head coach of the Polish volleyball team Skra Bełchatów.
In his career he has played for the teams of Paris UC (France), Paris Volley (France), Bre Banca Cuneo (Italy) Portol Mallorca (Spain), Skra Bełchatów and Delecta Bydgoszcz (both Poland).

In April 2013 he signed a contract to return to return to Skra Bełchatów.
In the 2011–12 CEV Champions League, Kurek won the Best Spiker award, and the silver medal, playing with Skra Bełchatów.
