He also helped establish the Rhino Trust in the 1970s (now under the WWF), helped return two lion cubs (Big Boy & Little Boy) to the wild, and provided wildlife education to local children in the South Luangwa Valley.
The main settlement of the park is actually outside its eastern boundary at Mfuwe, home to an international airport.

In addition to its east-west Lusaka-Malawi axis, the Great East Road links north to Lundazi, north-west to the South Luangwa National Park, south-east to Mozambique, and, in Lusaka Province, south to the Lower Zambezi National Park and the town of Luangwa at the Luangwa-Zambezi river confluence.
