His Father, John Macdonald Aldus was a Company Sergeant Major in the South Wales Borderers, as was his father, killed in action in the Khyber pass.
Following the outbreak of World War II he played several times for the club in wartime fixtures before serving in Burma with the South Wales Borderers.
They had been on the East Indiamen Astell, Ceylon and Windham when a French frigate squadron captured the last two at the Action of 3 July 1810 near the Comoros Islands.
