The song is the first official single featured on the Sparkle: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album which Sumpter is a part of.


Before Too Long

The album was co-produced by Kelly with Alan Thorne (Hoodoo Gurus, The Stems) who, according to music journalist Robert Forster (former The Go-Betweens singer-songwriter), helped the band create "a sound that will not only influence future roots-rock bands but, through its directness, sparkle and dedication to the song, will also come to be seen as particularly Australian. Ultimately, it means the records these people made together are timeless".

Funky Divas

The second single, "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" (a cover of the Aretha Franklin hit from the film Sparkle), also became a top ten hit on the US Hot 100 (and also their fifth #1 single in the US R&B chart).

Lynn Breedlove

Godspeed is now a short film, starring Breedlove as Jim, the antihero, Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys as the dispatcher, and Jillian Lauren, aka Sparkle Diamonds of the LA burlesque troupe Velvet Hammer, as the stripper love interest.

Mysterious Eyes

The song has some alternate versions too, those being "Mysterious Eyes ~dry flavor of G mix~" from the album "SPARKLE ~Sujigakidoori no Skyblue~", and, more recently, guitarist Okamoto Hitoshi created a version called "Mysterious Eyes ~Reason P.~", available for download using a QR code card included in his album "Now Printing...".
