Inside the presbytery on the afternoon of Friday 23 May 1980, Fr Edward Hull OSB, aged 88, was murdered along with his housekeeper of 27 years, Miss Ethel Maude Lelean.

Its name is taken from the group of streets off Montrose Avenue that are named after early Christian saints such St Ethelbert, St Catherine and St Augustine.
The thatched parish church stands on a hill to the south of the village and is dedicated to St Ethelbert.
