After the team merged with the St. George Dragons during the 1998/99 off-season, the station continued to broadcast their own live coverage of St. George Illawarra Dragons matches until 2001.
After a 48-0 loss to Catalan Dragons and a run of disappointing results, Sharp's contract was terminated by the Giants and for the 2009 season, Nathan Brown, former coach at St. George Illawarra Dragons, took over the helm.

Following a hiccup in round four against the New Zealand Warriors, the Knights headed down to Wollongong and thrashed the St. George Illawarra Dragons 54-6; therefore exacting revenge following the Dragons' 48-2 win in 2004 (the first match for Newcastle since Andrew Johns suffered a season-ending knee injury that year).
