In 1559 Queen Elizabeth granted it to Edward Baeshe and it remained in the Bashe family for several generation.
In 1588 he was elected head-master of the grammar school at Reading, and in 1591 was presented to the vicarage of Stanstead Abbotts in Hertfordshire, which he resigned in 1593.
