Spelthorne has three football clubs: Ashford Town (Middlesex) F.C, who are based at the Robert Parker Stadium in Short Lane, Stanwell; Spelthorne Sports F.C. who play at Spelthorne Sports Club, Ashford and Staines Town F.C. who play at Wheatsheaf Park.
When Lord Knyvet died in July 1622 his will provided for the foundation of a free-school in Stanwell — the Lord Knyvet School was founded in 1624.
