LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 5407

Dr Peter Beet, the co-founder of Steamtown, Carnforth with Sir Bill McAlpine, and business partner David Davis, visited Lostock Hall MPD to choose a locomotive to save, selecting No.45407.

Milford railway station

The station has the same name as the fictional station in the film Brief Encounter (1945) starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson, although the scenes were filmed at Carnforth station in Lancashire.

It was to be restored through a partnership between Steamtown, the University of Scranton and the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona.

Rob Bale

Born in Lancaster, Lancashire, Bale attended Ripley St Thomas School and first swam with the Carnforth and District Swimming Club (Carnforth Otters).

Sir William McAlpine, 6th Baronet

After the efforts of Dr Peter Beet to preserve Carnforth LMS 10(A) shed, McAlpine bought shares in 1970, and then took the controlling interest from 1974 until 1987 in the visitor attraction that became Steamtown.

Steamtown, Peterborough Railway Preservation Society Inc.

Track was left over Pekina Creek, Black Rock Yard, Black Rock Bridge, Walloway Yard to Walloway Creek and in the yard of Orroroo.

Union Pacific 737

In 1989, the Steamtown Foundation donated the remaining railroad collection, including UP 737, to the National Park Service.
