Sfera Politicii was establisheded by Stelian Tănase around the Civic Society Foundation (Fundaţia "Societatea Civilă", which was headed by Alexandru Paleologu until his death in 2005) and the Institute for Economic and Political Research (Institutul de Cercetări Economice şi Politice).
