2 unusual facts about Stockholm Metro


Stockholm metro

The Stockholm metro runs electrically using a third rail with a nominal operating voltage of 650 V DC on line 13,14, 17, 18 and 19,and 750 V DC on the line 10 and 11.

This is planned for eventual extension to Danderyd and Täby in the north-east, interchanging with the existing Red line to Mörby centrum.


15 kV AC railway electrification

Exceptions are two local isolated railways – Saltsjöbanan and Roslagsbanan – that use DC power, the Stockholm Metro and tramways use DC power, the Oresund Bridge linking Sweden and Denmark is electrified at 25 kV, Danish standard; the split is located on the Swedish side near the bridge.

Djursholmsbanan

The tram tracks to Engelbrektsplan were closed in 1960 but instead, passengers coming to Stockholm East Station has a connection to the Stockholm metro through the adjacent Tekniska högskolan metro station since 1973.

Duvbo

The Duvbo metro station is located in central Sundbyberg, just outside Duvbo and is part of the Stockholm Metro.

Farsta strand

Since August 29, 1971, 200 m from the commuter train station, you can find the Farsta strand metro station, which is a terminus for line 18 on the Green line of the Stockholm Metro.

Hallonbergen

The subway station, which is located on the blue line (Akalla branch) of the Stockholm Metro, was opened in 1975.

Hökarängen

It was opened on October 1, 1950, as part of the first route of the Stockholm metro, running from Slussen to Hökarängen.

Kärrtorp

Kärrtorp is served by the elevated Kärrtorp metro station, which was opened in 1958 and is located along the green line 17.

Örby

Örby was served by trams between 1930 and 1951 (line 19, at the time called Örbybanan, "the Örby line"), but has now bus connections with the Stockholm Metro at the stations in Bandhagen and Högdalen as well as the Stockholm commuter rail station at Älvsjö.

Roslagsbanan

Instead, passengers coming to Stockholm East have an interchange connection to the Stockholm metro through the adjacent Tekniska högskolan metro station since 1973.

It is located in conjunction with the Stockholm metro station Tekniska högskolan.

Tekniska högskolan metro station

Tekniska högskolan is a station on the red line of the Stockholm metro, located in the districts Östermalm and Norra Djurgården, near the Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska högskolan).
