James Root (born 1971), is the rhythm/lead guitarist of the heavy metal band Slipknot, and the lead guitarist for the rock band Stone Sour.


Bullets and Octane

The band has been touring in Europe and North America since December 31, 1998, playing as a support band for Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Eagles of Death Metal and Flogging Molly amongst others, as well as headlining their own shows in 2006.

Got Money

The cover features Slipknot and Stone Sour guitarist Jim Root and Korn drummer Ray Luzier and was released on Jonathan Davis' solo band website, and is available on iTunes.

Now, Robins has teamed up with Josh Rand, guitarist of the band Stone Sour, and together they make up the hard rock band Moonshot.

Recently, he played the bass guitar for Stone Sour on the band's new records House of Gold & Bones - Part 1 and House of Gold & Bones – Part 2 as a replacement for the departed bassist Shawn Economaki.

The band has played with Queens of the Stone Age, MxPx, The Distillers, Goldfinger, Paramore, Alexisonfire, Rise Against, Silverstein, The Alkaline Trio, The Lawrence Arms, Chevelle, Taproot, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and joined Evanescence on their Canadian tour in January 2007 which also included Stone Sour.
