Although East Coast hip hop was more popular throughout the late 1980s, N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton presented the toughened sound of West Coast hip hop, which was accompanied by gritty, street-level subject matter.
The opening drum break from "Down on the Avenue", from the band's first album, Feel It (WMOT 1976), has been sampled by many hip hop artists, including N.W.A (Straight Outta Compton), Ice-T, Jungle Brothers and Run-D.M.C. The bassline of their 1982 single Act Like You Know was prominently sampled in 1991 in the song Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey) by American hip hop band De La Soul.
Throughout the song, there are references to other "rap songs" such as OutKast's "Elevators (Me & You)", 50 Cent's "In Da Club", N.W.A.'s "Straight Outta Compton", Lil Wayne's "A Milli" and Soulja Boy's club hit "Donk".
Str8 Outta Northcote is the second full-length album from Australian grindcore band Blood Duster, its title being a parody of the N.W.A album Straight Outta Compton.

A sadistic parody of the police on a skit featuring The D.O.C. from the group's 1-900 hotline introduces "Sa Prize, Pt. 2", a sequel to the controversial "Fuck tha Police," originally from the Straight Outta Compton album.
This track was also the B-side of a split single release with Eazy-E's Boyz-n-the-Hood, which was released in 1989, following the commercial success of Eazy-E's solo debut Eazy-Duz-It and the group's first album proper, Straight Outta Compton, on which a remix of "Dope Man" was included.
