In the console versions, each map is connected together by a world-overview map in a similar manner to Super Mario World.
It is slowed down and made to echo in caverns, whereas it moves in a slow, wave-like fashion (in 3/4 or waltz time) in underwater levels; in the athletic theme, it is played quickly and energetically to suit the more risky and lively nature of a level taking place in the air.

The Super Mario Bros. theme can be heard in the Special Zone if the player leaves the overworld screen open for a few minutes.
Other notable high scores included 99% for Super Mario All-Stars on the SNES, in September 1993, and 98% each for Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES and Super Mario World on the SNES, both in 1992.
