Currently he is a President of both the Arthur Purdy Stout Society and the International Society of Bone & Soft Tissue Pathology and is also a surgical pathologist at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.

He continued to lecture actively at an international level, but he assigned editorship of his surgical pathology textbook to Juan Rosai, who has continued to oversee Rosai & Ackerman's Surgical Pathology through its 10th edition.
It was here, working with attending physicians such as Glenn Morrow and Eugene Braunwald that his career began to focus on cardiovascular pathology, and he focused his training exclusively on autopsies and surgical pathology.
