Prabhakaran's father (Mouli) and Ramanathan (Raghuvaran), Meena's father, are close friends and they decide to get Prabhakaran and Meena (Suvalakshmi) married.
But the father opts to kill himself rather than face his son and so, Maayi brings his stepsister Lakshmi (Suvalakshmi) to live with him.
Ponni (Suvalakshmi) lives with her grandmother and they are set aside by the villagers.
