The Center provides academic training and houses specialists in, among many others, Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury (TBI), healthy brain aging, autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), stroke, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The state's Fusion Center was constructed within TBI Headquarters under his watch housing Homeland Security among other programs such as AMBER Alert and Tennessee's Sex Offender Registry.
While its sister organization, the Center for the Intrepid, treats amputee and/or burned service members, the NICoE provides diagnostic evaluations and treatment of complex TBI and PH conditions to promote physical, psychological and spiritual healing.

The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) is a Department of Defense organization working to advance the clinical care, diagnosis, research and education of military service members with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and psychological health (PH) conditions.
He holds a major TBI grant from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research; is chairman of the Brain Injury Special Interest Group of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R); and is a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Brain Trauma Foundation.
Due to its sensitivity to venous blood SWI is commonly used in traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and for high resolution brain venographies but has many other clinical applications.
Additionally, TBI provides airport management services at Atlanta and Macon, Georgia and Burbank, California in the US.
Early research in bone marrow transplantation by E. Donnall Thomas and colleagues demonstrated that this process of splitting TBI into multiple smaller doses resulted in lower toxicity and better outcomes than delivering a single, large dose.
