Second place was awarded to the University of Akron from Akron, Ohio (Sharp) with their design of a through-the-road parallel hybrid with a 1.9 L Volkswagen TDI engine running on biodiesel (B-20), a Siemens 21 kW ACI motor, and a Johnson Controls 165 V battery pack (Challenge X c).
TDI, whose board is chaired by former Ontario Premier David Peterson, is backed by Blackstone and was announced on February 23, 2010.
Ulrich Baretzky is "?title=Audi">Audi Sports' Head of Engine Technology, and has been credited with developing the V12 TDI engine, used in the Audi R10 racecar.
