A further design of tailplane is the V-tail, so named because that instead of the standard inverted T or T-tail, there are two vertical fins angled away from each other in a V (if they're arranged like a V, at least one of them isn't vertical).
The fin was large and rounded with a generous rudder, a little like that of the later Gladiator, with the tailplane braced from above to the fin.
Changes were made to the engine cowling and baffling to reduce cooling drag, the exhaust system was redesigned, the main landing gear fairings were further improved, the ventral fin was deleted and the horizontal tail was enlarged to allow a larger center of gravity range.
On 15 January 1977, Flight 618 operated by Vickers Viscount SE-FOZ crashed at Kälvesta on approach to Bromma Airport, Stockholm due to ice accretion on the tailplane leading to a loss of control.
