Talgo II coaches and locomotives were first built in 1950 at the American Car and Foundry Company (ACF) works in the United States under the direction of Spanish engineers, and entered service on the Rock Island Line, servicing the Jet Rocket train, between Chicago and Peoria, Illinois.

The Aqualys therefore shares this line with the TER Centre trains Tours-Orléans and Orléans-Étampes-Paris, freight trains, the trains Paris-Royan, Paris-Madrid (the Talgo), Orléans-Nantes (the Interloire) and some rare Paris - Bordeaux using the classic line that can be found during the holidays.
In the fall of 1994, with the introduction of TGV services from Paris and Geneva to Montpellier, the Catalan Talgo was shortened to the Montpellier – Barcelona part.
First one, EMD serial number 20826, entered service with the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad to pull the "Talgo Jet Rocket" train between Chicago and Peoria.
The locomotives worked passenger services with Talgo II coaches in red lined silver Talgo II livery, starting in 1950 between Madrid and Hendaye and ending in 1972 with trains between Madrid and Palencia.
