Their aunt Edna Madzongwe (the late Mabel Tawengwa's young sister) is the current President of Senate and a member of the Politburo (2013).

In 1960, George Tawengwa became the first black person in Southern Rhodesia to purchase a 1,872.0 hectare commercial farm, then called Rhodesdale Farm (renamed Zimdale Farm after independence, in 1980) which was later run by his son Godfrey.

He also became owner of the Mushandira Pamwe Hotel in Highfield, Harare(1972) and was the first self made black millionaire.
