Tecaxic-Calixtlahuaca was a Mexica settlement, before it was destroyed and conquered by the Otomi and the Spanish conquistadors.
This project was sponsored by Arizona State University and the National Science Foundation, and fieldwork began in 2006 with a full-coverage intensive survey of the site.
The date range for the burial includes the early period of European exploration of the Americas, though it predates the first sustained contact with Mexico under Hernán Cortés.
