7 unusual facts about Telemedia


CHVR-FM

The station was acquired by Telemedia in 1998, and Telemedia was in turn bought out by Standard Broadcasting in 2002.

CICX-FM

In 1976, the station was reacquired by local owners, who in turn sold it to Telemedia in 1980.

CICZ-FM

The studios moved in 1990 to a new facility on Cranston Crescent off Highway 12 in Midland, in a facility that also housed Telemedia's community newspapers.

CJQM-FM

The company then entered into a local management agreement with Telemedia, taking over management of that company's CHAS-FM and making CHAS and CJQM sister stations, an arrangement that continues to this day.

CKOR

In 1999, Telemedia purchased Okanagan Skeena Group and its broadcasting assets (including CKOR); shortly after, CKOR adopted Telemedia's EZ Rock brand.

Foster Hewitt Broadcasting

The company ended with the sale of the station by Hewitt in 1980 to Telmed Communications Limited and the station was later renamed CJCL-AM 1430 in 1981 and all sports radio (FAN-1430) in 1992.

New England Monthly

Purchased from its original investors by Telemedia, a Canadian publishing company, it ceased publication in September 1990 during the recession which hit the region.

On June 7, 2000, Telemedia Radio Atlantic Ltd. received CRTC approval to add a transmitter for CIKX-FM Grand Falls at Plaster Rock using the facilities of the CJCJ Woodstock rebroadcasting transmitter, CJCJ-2 Plaster Rock.
