The new municipality contains the former City of Doncaster & Templestowe, but with Ringwood North ceded to the new City of Maroondah and Wonga Park, annexed from the former Shire of Lillydale.
Nevertheless, Diamond Creek moved to the Heidelberg District Football League after World War I and, in 1922 joined Eltham, Greensborough, Kangaroo Ground, Templestowe and Warrandyte as founding members of the Diamond Valley Football League.
Andersons Creek Road runs along an unnamed ridge that, when atop, gives views of Mount Dandenong to the east and the further rolling hills of Templestowe to the west.
It is situated around Ruffey Lake in a portion of a valley through which the Ruffey Creek runs, forming the border between Doncaster and Templestowe.
