Electoral division of Barkly

Barkly was created along with the creation of the Assembly in 1974 as a conservative-leaning marginal seat based around the town of Tennant Creek.

Barkly is a rural electorate, covering 448,576 km² and taking in the towns of Tennant Creek, Borroloola, Ali Curung, Warrego, Tara Aboriginal Community and Alpururulam.

Jameson cell

Also in 1989, Peko Mines, then a division of North Broken Hill Peko Limited, engaged Professor Jameson to undertake test work in its Warrego concentrator near Tennant Creek in Australia's Northern Territory.
