5 unusual facts about Terence Conran

In 1995, Sir Terence Conran asked Willcock to return to the United Kingdom to take up the dual role as Buying and Marketing Director for the shop group and to head a new initiative to be called Conran Collection.

He had both corporate and private clients including Sir Terence Conran, the Storehouse Group and the actor John Cleese.

Larry Gott

Another of Gott's award winning pieces, an outdoor chair and table set made from wire mesh, caught the eye of Sir Terence Conran and subsequently retailed in the Conran shops worldwide under Gott's brandname 'MeshMan'.

He left college to take up a job with Dennis Lennon's architectural company, which had been commissioned to make a 1/4 scale interior of a Princess Flying Boat.

Conran has also created various other London restaurants including the Soop Kitchen, Orrery, Quaglino's, Mezzo (restaurant), worked with Joel Kissin on Le Pont de la Tour, Blueprint Cafe, Butler's Wharf Chop House, together with restaurants in various other countries.


Retail design

Some of the earliest examples of boutiques are the Biba boutique created by Barbara Hulanicki and the Habitat line of stores made by Terence Conran.

A friendship with the Conrans led to the establishment of Bibendum in 1987, where he worked as chef and joint proprietor with Sir Terence Conran and the late Lord Paul Hamlyn.
