He took his chance to replace Terry Adlington when he was out of the side with a broken finger, and helped the club to promotion from the Fourth Division.
After only eight league games for Norwich, he returned to Devon, signing for Torquay United in December 1962 as understudy to Torquay goalkeeper Terry Adlington.
