Vance ultimately chose to leave SNL at the end of the 1986 season (along with many other cast members from that season who were dismissed, including Joan Cusack, Robert Downey, Jr., Randy Quaid, Anthony Michael Hall, and Terry Sweeney—this last, another homosexual cast member, recruited for the 1985-1986 cast, was the show's only gay male to be hired as of 2012.

Terry Sweeney

Sweeney, who is not related to fellow SNL alumna Julia Sweeney, had also been a writer of sketches for SNL during the early 1980s under producer Jean Doumanian prior to being hired as a member of the cast.

Terrence (Terry) Sweeney was born in 1960 in Queens, New York and raised in Massapequa Park, New York as the youngest of two children to Terrence, a butcher, and Lenore Sweeney.
