With W. S. Gilbert, he wrote several songs, including "Thady O'Flynn" (1868; used in the operetta No Cards), "Corisande" (1870) and "Eily's Reason" (1871).
The Murrisk Augustinian Friary was founded on lands granted by Thady O'Malley in 1457 by Hugh O'Malley of Banada Friary, County Sligo who was granted permission by Pope Calluistus to establish a Church and Priory at Croagh Patrick because "the inhabitants of those parts have not hitherto been instructed in their faith.".
The Very Reverend Dr. Thady O'Brien, Regius Professor of Theology of the University of Toulouse and Rector of the Irish College Toulouse, born 12 March 1671 at Robertstown, Gortroe, in the diocese of Cloyne; oradined at Toulouse on 2 June 1703; Rector of the Irish College Tolouse 1706-1715; Parish Priest of Castlelyons 1715-1747; died 10 October 1747 at Castlelyons where he was interred.
