He first appeared at Theaters in Thale, Breslau and from 1930 till 1939 at the Kammerspiele in Munich, where he also worked as a stage director for the first time.
Since 1990 Thale has had a town partnership with Seesen (Lower Saxony) on the northwest edge of the Harz and, since 1998, with the French town of Juvisy-sur-Orge, 18 km from Paris, as well as Tillabéri in Niger, northwest of the River Niger.
Schemm was then appointed as head of a bacteriological-chemical laboratory in Thale (Hubertusbad), which, however, closed by 1921 on financial grounds.
The Phru Khuan Khi Sian wetlands at the Thale Noi lake are protected as a Ramsar wetland.
The Wilhelmsblick lies within the Harz/Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park aoout 1,000 metres (as the crow flies) north-northwest of the junction of the Landesstraße 94 (Altenbrak–Treseburg) and the L 93 (Allrode–Treseburg–Wienrode) in Treseburg, the last-named road being linked to Thale via the nearby Kreisstraße 1350.
