Mir Jumla II

Mir Jumla, who in the 1640s had his own ships and organized merchant fleets that sailed throughout Surat, Thatta, Arakan, Ayuthya, Balasore, Aceh, Melaka, Johore, Bantam, Makassar, Ceylon, Bandar Abbas, Mecca, Jeddah, Basra, Aden, Masqat, Mocha and the Maldives.

Thatta

In 1739 however, following the Battle of Karnal, the province was ceded to Nadir Shah of Persia, after which Thatta fell into neglect as the Indus river started to silt up.


Mirbahar

The Mirbahar tribe is known to have owned large Dhows in the ports of Thatta they are also known to have guarded the seas, particularly during the rule of Mirza Ghazi Beg and even helped Prince Aurangzeb when he was Subedar of Sindh to found the port of Kukralo, which was later abandoned.

Pirzada

The Pirzada in Punjab are found mainly in the cities of Multan and Bahawalpur and now they are also living in cities like Thatta and Badin.

Tourism in Sindh

Islamic architecture is quite prominent in the province with the Jama Masjid in Thatta built by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan and numerous mausoleums dot the province including the very old Shahbaz Qalander mausoleum dedicated to the Iranian-born Sufi and the beautiful mausoleum of Muhammad Ali Jinnah known as the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi.
