Stonewall Jackson's ancestral site is at Waugh's Farm, The Birches (Jackson also had roots in Coleraine, County Londonderry).
At its northern terminus, the intersection with NY 9D known as Garrison Four Corners, marked by another historic house, Ralph Adams Cram's The Birches.
The second attack was on the part-time station at The Birches, County Armagh, and it began by driving a JCB digger with a 200 lb (91 kg) bomb in its bucket through the reinforced fences the RUC had in place around their bases, and then exploding the bomb and raking the police station with gunfire.
In the 1970s the Bronze birch borer began killing the birches with the last of the original birches dying in 1997.
